About Evie’s Tamales…
Founded by *Evelyn “Evie”* (pronounced “Eh-vee,” not “Ee-vee”) in *1981* in the heart of Detroit’s *Mexicantown*, *Evie’s Tamales* began as a humble family kitchen and grew into a beloved neighborhood favorite. Inspired by her mother’s and grandmother’s recipes, Evie built her restaurant on tradition, love, and community. Though Evie has passed, her legacy lived on through her daughters — led by *Diane*, whose dedication and heart kept the restaurant thriving for many years. After Diane’s passing, the next generation stepped forward, with *her son Eugene* now carrying on the family tradition and keeping Evie’s vision alive. Guided by her favorite saying, “Panza llena, corazón contento” — *“Full belly, happy heart”* — *Evie’s Tamales* remains a true taste of family, culture, and home.
